Hello! I am Barbara White, the DPUSA Secretary. I am here to talk about the 2026 DPUSA National Tournament happening in Fresno, California.
You know what? Fresno is a hidden gem! There are many things there that people are not aware of.
I was born and raised in California. I am a San Franciscan native. I have traveled all over California including North, South, West East and Central parts of California. See on the map where there is a green arrow? That is where Fresno is located. Fresno is a college town, so that means it has a charming character in its town. There are lots of great sites close to Fresno to visit.
Fresno has fabulous weather with at least 211 days of Sunshine. It is the third sunniest city after Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas. So, this means that Fresno is a good location for PB tournaments because we don’t have to worry about rainy or windy weather. The weather there is dependable and stable. As a result, Fresno has a strong PB community and culture there. They have more tournaments held there than other popular locations including local, state and national events.
Before or after the tournament weekend (you will be way too busy during the tournament events to be able to see the various sites nearby), there are several places you could visit. Fresno has beautiful vineyards for grapes, wineries where you can go wine tasting, farmer’s markets selling fresh fruits and vegetables, and harvest festivals as it will be in the Fall and that when they celebrate the harvesting season (you can go on line to check when exactly those may occur).
Fresno has the Chaffee Zoo and a beautiful art museum. There is Woodward Park that people come to see. It has a good name. Within that park is another park called the Shinzen Friendship Park. I personally have not gone there yet but I plan to check it out.
Another unique place to see is the Forestiere Underground Gardens. I am curious about that place and want to see it. Come join me!
Many of you have heard of two famous National Parks. One is Yosemite and the other is Sequoia. Yosemite is 60 miles from Fresno and Sequoia is 80 miles from Fresno. They are so close by! You should try to see one or both of them if you haven’t been there.
In closure, the DPUSA Board Members wish you a Wonderful and Safe 4th of July!
